League Cup Semi-Final Victory Sets Up Wembley Showpiece
AVFC Women Thrash Arsenal to Reach Final
Aston Villa Women have reached their first major final in the club's history after an emphatic 4-0 victory over Arsenal in the FA Women's League Cup semi-final on Tuesday night. Goals from Rachel Daly, Alisha Lehmann, Kenza Dali, and Ramona Bachmann sealed a memorable triumph for Carla Ward's team at Meadow Park.
Daly opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, heading home a cross from Lehmann. The Swiss forward doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time with a stunning solo effort. Dali made it three after the break with a superb curling strike, and Bachmann completed the scoring in the closing stages.
The victory sets up an intriguing final against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium on March 11. United, who are the holders of the trophy, beat Reading 3-0 in the other semi-final.
Villa, who are currently eighth in the Women's Super League, will be hoping to continue their impressive run of form and lift their first major trophy since being promoted to the top flight in 2020.
